These photographs were taken shortly after being acquainted with Jo. I was newly back in Sydney and with equal parts fear and spontaneity, I asked her to let me take photos of her with paper flowers on her head, with little confidence that she would allow the ridiculous request (even after showing her the handmade crown). I am now convinced that above any previous or subsequent interaction, it was this that made each a friend in the other's eyes.
